West Indies seamer Joseph ruled out of T20 World Cup
Alzarri Joseph has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup after West Indies named their 15-man squad for next month's tournament on Monday.
The same squad will also face South Africa in a three-match T20I series ahead of their World Cup opener against Scotland on February 7.
Joseph was facing a race against time to be fit for the competition, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, but was not able to recover.
The fast bowler has taken 62 wickets in the short format for West Indies, the fifth-most of any player, at an average of 24.6.
Quentin Samson has been named in Daren Sammy's squad, with the batter making his T20 debut in their recent 2-1 series defeat to Afghanistan, where he scored just 35 runs across the three games.
Since co-hosting the tournament in 2024, West Indies have seen the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell retire from international duty, but veterans Jason Holder and Johnson Charles remain in the team.
After facing Scotland in Kolkata, West Indies will also face England, Italy and Nepal in the first group stage, with the top two sides progressing to the Super Eight.
Every shot, every celebration & and every moment of hope, we show the world who we are!
