Sam Curran's superb spell did for India as England claimed a 27-run victory at Lord's to clinch a 2-1 ODI series win.

Curran took 4-75 to wipe out India's chances late in the tourists' chase on Sunday.

England had set India a target of 388 to win, with Harry Brook's team having put on a fine 387-3 from their 50 overs.

Ben Duckett plundered 141 off 135 balls, while fellow opener Jacob Bethall struck 91 from 93 in a fantastic first-wicket stand.

Prasidh Krishna (2-69) broke that partnership by dismissing Bethall in the 31st over, but it was not until the 44th over that Duckett finally fell, as he was caught and bowled by Prince Yadav (1-79).

Brook (14) was dismissed by Krishna, but Joe Root (74 not out) and Jos Buttler (41 n.o) guided England to a hefty total.

Yet India started well, with Rohit Sharma's sparkling 138 and a neat 77 from Shubman Gill taking them to 147 before the latter was pinned lbw by Adil Rashid (1-64).

Virat Kohli picked up the slack. Bethall (1-49), though, claimed the vital wicket of Rohit when he bowled India's opener.

Rohit's departure paved the way for Curran to take centre stage, as he ripped through India's order, sending Ishan Kishan (14), Shreyas Iyer (0) and Kohli (74) packing, before Jofra Archer bowled KL Rahul.

Curran lured Axar Patel (2) into a loose shot to cap off a brutal spell, and even a late flurry from Gurnoor Brar (18 n.o) and Arshdeep Singh (15 n.o) was never going to be enough to trouble England.

England snap seven-year wait and Root grabs another record

Not since June 2019 had England beaten India in successive ODIs, but they have now ended that wait, following their four-wicket victory in the second match of this series, which also snapped a six-game losing run against India in the format.

England have also ended a three-series run of losing to India in the 50-over format.

While Duckett and Curran made the headlines, Root delivered another cool, composed and unbeaten knock.

Root finished the series with 249 runs from his three innings, and he was not dismissed at all. He has become the highest-scoring player to not be dismissed in an ODI series between England and India, surpassing MS Dhoni's record of 212 (set in October 2011).

India, meanwhile, have lost three straight ODI series away from home. That is their longest such run since a streak of five back in the 1990s.
