T20 World Cup: India survive thrilling run chase from England to reach the final
India will face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final after the Men in Blue defeated England by seven runs in Mumbai.
Although Jacob Bethell struck 105 off just 48 deliveries, England fell short in their attempt to complete a record run chase of 254 in the competition.
England decided to bowl first after winning the toss, and though they removed Abhishek Sharma (9) early on, Harry Brook dropped Sanju Samson on 15, which proved costly.
Samson fired 89 off 42 balls, allowing the likes of Shivam Dube (43 off 25), Tilak Varma (21 off 7) and Hardik Pandya (27 off 12) to come in and slog England's bowlers as India finished their innings on 253-7.
England openers Phil Salt (5) and Jos Buttler (25) continued their recent struggles, with Harry Brook (7) also falling cheaply, though Bethell provided reason for hope.
Bethell put on a brilliant partnership of 77 with Will Jacks (35), though Jasprit Bumrah's (1-33) 18th over went for just six runs, leaving England with just too much to do in the final 12 balls despite Jofra Archer's (19 not out) late flurry.

Data Debrief: India get it done the hard way
India have now won 18 men's T20I games against England; only West Indies (19) have won more against England in this format.
India's total of 253-7 is the fourth-highest at the men's T20 World Cup, while they are the first country to surpass 250 twice in the competition's history (also scoring 256-4 versus Zimbabwe in the Super 8 in this edition).
Bethell's 45-ball century is the third-fastest by an England player in the shortest format, after Phil Salt versus South Africa in 2025 (39 balls) and Liam Livingstone against Pakistan in 2021 (42 balls).
