Stunning Connolly century guides Australia to nervy win over Bangladesh
Australia overcame a dramatic late collapse thanks to Cooper Connolly's maiden ODI century as they clinched a one-wicket victory against Bangladesh to avoid a series whitewash.
Bangladesh wrapped up a historic series win last time out and were only one good delivery from winning it 3-0, with Australia instead salvaging some late pride to make it 2-1.
The hosts were dropped to 53-2 inside 10 overs, with Soumya Sarkar (2) and Tanzid Hasan (19) unable to build any real momentum, while Matt Renshaw (2-44) also sent stumps flying to dismiss Najmul Hossain Shanto for 24 shortly after.
However, Litton Das, who raced to 58 not out before retiring hurt in the 32nd over, and Tawhid Hridoy (83) dug in to put together a 92-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Mosaddesk Hossain took over from Litton and helped Bangladesh with an unbeaten 56, eventually taking them to 274-5.
Connolly anchored Australia's chase as he racked up 149 before becoming the ninth batter dismissed in the 49th over, and had put the tourists within reach of their target with three consecutive sixes in the 45th.
The likes of Josh Inglis (21), Marnus Labuschagne (29) and Cameron Green (27) had helped Australia to 202-5, but they suffered a late collapse.
They lost four wickets for just five runs in four overs after an inspired performance from Shoriful Islam (6-48), but a four from Adam Zampa got Australia to 277-9 with three balls remaining.
