Renshaw heroics see Australia win Bangladesh T20I series with a match to spare
Australia clinched a T20I series win over Bangladesh with a match to spare as Matt Renshaw's unbeaten 89 guided them to a tense seven-run victory on Friday.
After their spinners did the hard work in Wednesday's low-scoring first T20I, Australia had to resist a spirited comeback attempt as Bangladesh took this contest all the way.
Australia were in trouble when they were dropped to 44-3 by the end of the powerplay, with Josh Inglis (11), the previously in-form Cooper Connolly (1) and captain Mitchell Marsh (20) all falling victim to a multi-faceted Bangladesh attack.
But Renshaw put together a 97-run partnership with Tim David (45), with eight overs passing before the latter was caught by Tanzid Hasan off Abdul Gaffar Saqlain's delivery.
Renshaw continued to plug away until the end of the innings as Australia set a solid target of 196-5, though Bangladesh came close to a successful chase.
A blazing start saw the hosts put up 48 runs in just 3.3 overs before Tanzid Hasan (30) was caught and bowled by man-of-the-moment Renshaw.
Fellow opener Saif Hassan (42 off 33) eventually saw his scoring pace slow before being taken by Marsh off Joel Davies' delivery in the 14th over, and Bangladesh were some way off the pace at that point, sitting at 134-4.
However, captain Towhid Hridoy (35) kept their hopes alive, as they were left requiring three maximums from the final three balls. Hridoy obliged from the first, slamming Aaron Hardie for six, but he could only manage a four from the next delivery and was then caught by David off the last.

Renshaw leads big hitters as Australia clinch series
Australia underwhelmed in the recent ODI series between these teams, with only a Connolly century in the third match preventing a 3-0 defeat, but in the 20-over format, they got the job done with another match still to come.
The tourists had only needed to chase down a target of 132 on Wednesday, but both teams showed far more explosiveness on Friday.
The aggregate score of 385 was the highest-ever in a T20I between Bangladesh and Australia, and almost a quarter of that total came from Renshaw.
He bettered his previous highest score in T20Is by 34 runs, having hit 65 against Zimbabwe in February this year.
This is Australia's first T20I series triumph in Bangladesh, having gone down by a 4-1 scoreline on their last visit in 2021, and they will look to make it a clean sweep on Sunday.
