Reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson heads a list of nine Baltimore Ravens players selected for the Pro Bowl Games, while Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes was among the more notable omissions from the initial rosters revealed Thursday.

Baltimore's nine selections were the most of any team, with the Detroit Lions leading the NFC with seven players. The Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles each had six players chosen.

The defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs placed five players on the AFC's preliminary roster, a group that includes tight end Travis Kelce and defensive tackle Chris Jones but not Mahomes, who was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first six seasons since becoming Kansas City's starting quarterback in 2018.

Jackson was one of three quarterbacks named to the AFC team along with the Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen and the Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow. Allen was voted as the starter, though the AFC East champion Bills placed just one other player in offensive tackle Dion Dawkins.

The NFC's quarterback group will contain Washington Commanders standout Jayden Daniels, who becomes only the fourth rookie signal-caller since 1970 to make an initial Pro Bowl roster.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff was chosen as the NFC's starter, while Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold was named to the first Pro Bowl of his seven-year career.

Daniels is one of three rookie selections along with Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers and Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Jared Verse.

The running back group is headlined by the Eagles' Saquon Barkley, the NFC starter who last week became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Baltimore's Derrick Henry, the AFC's leading rusher with 1,783 yards, will start on the opposite side and was named to his fifth Pro Bowl.

Other notable selections include Cincinnati wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons and Kyle Juszczyk, whose nine career Pro Bowl honours are the most by a fullback in NFL history.

Chase, the league's leader in receptions (117), receiving yards (1,612) and receiving touchdowns (16), is just the fourth wide receiver named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons. Parsons, one of five Cowboys named to the NFC roster, is the first defensive player with four Pro Bowl nods in his first four seasons since former Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald began his career with 10 consecutive selections.

Kelce was named to his 10th Pro Bowl, tying New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the most of any active player.

Rodgers' Jets are currently shut out of this year's event, however, as one of four teams to not have a Pro Bowl representative. The Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans also had no selections.

The Pro Bowl Games will take place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 2. This will be the third straight year in which the Pro Bowl will conduct a flag football game in addition to skills competitions.

Brothers Peyton and Eli Manning will once again serve as head coaches, with Peyton leading the AFC and Eli the NFC.
