NFL star quarterback Rodgers to sign with Steelers

The Aaron Rodgers saga appears to be over.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback informed the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday that he will join the team on a one-year deal.

Rodgers had been linked to the Steelers for months, and told the front office that he will fly to Pittsburgh on Friday to officially sign the contract.

He will then be with the team for the Steelers' mini-camp that begins on Tuesday.

This will be the 21st NFL season for the 41-year-old, and an opportunity for the four-time league MVP to end his illustrious career on a positive note after two forgettable seasons with the New York Jets.

His first year in New York in 2023 famously ended abruptly after he tore his left Achilles tendon on the Jets' fourth play from scrimmage in the season opener.

He returned to start all 17 games last season, but led the Jets to just five wins, finishing with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions and a 90.5 passer rating - his lowest in any season as a full-time starter.

The Jets announced in February that the 10-time Pro Bowler was not part of their plans for the 2025 season.

Rodgers now joins a Pittsburgh team that is in need of a quarterback with Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and rookie Will Howard as the only QBs on the roster after the team decided not to bring back either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields.

Despite uneven quarterback play in 2024, the Steelers still went 10-7 to make the play-offs for the fourth time in five years.

The proud franchise has not won a play-off game since the 2016 season, however, and the hope is Rodgers can help end that drought.

Rodgers will not have to wait long to face his former team, with the Steelers visiting the Jets in Week 1.

In Week 8, he will face a Green Bay Packers team where he spent his first 18 pro seasons.
