Travis Kelce remains "fired up" to return and place retirement on hold as the Kansas City Chiefs hope their star continues into the 2025 season.

Kelce added uncertainty to his playing future in the wake of the Chiefs' Super Bowl defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The 35-year-old suggested he would take his time and not make any "crazy decisions" after the disappointment in New Orleans.

However, the Chiefs' general manager Brett Veach believes Kelce may still feature in the next campaign for Andy Reid's team.

"How we left at the end of the season is that he was fired up,'' Veach said at the scouting combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday.

"I think we left it as he'd be back and were excited to get him back and get him going.''

Kelce managed just four catches for 39 yards in the Chiefs' 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, a defeat that denied Kansas City three straight crowns.

He had said in multiple interviews the week of the Super Bowl that he intended to play again in 2025, though Chiefs coach Reid somewhat contrasted Veach's sentiment when speaking at the same event on Tuesday.

"For right now, I think that's what he's doing,'' Reid said, referring to his ask for Kelce to relax and recover, rather than focus on his future.

Barring his rookie season, Kelce ended the 2024 campaign with career lows in receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (three).
