The Philadelphia Eagles rewarded star Saquon Barkley with a two-year contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in league history, the team announced Monday.

After a historic season that culminated in a Super Bowl victory, Barkley and the Eagles agreed to a $41.2million deal over two seasons with $36million guaranteed.

Barkley is the first running back to make over $20million per year, and Barkley can reportedly earn an additional $15million in performance incentives.

Barkley signed a three-year, $38million contract with the Eagles last March.

In his first year in Philadelphia, Barkley had one of the best seasons ever by a running back and became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards.

The former No. 2 overall pick rushed for 2,005 yards last season and missed a chance to break Eric Dickerson's record of 2,105 yards when he sat out the final game of the regular season.

He followed with 499 yards and five touchdowns in Philadelphia's four post-season games.

Barkley's 2,504 rushing yards in the 2024 regular season and playoffs are the most ever.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman called Barkley’s first campaign in Philadelphia "the best season for any skill position player in NFL history."

Still just 28, Barkley has cemented himself as one of the Eagles' cornerstone players after one season.
