Ireland expect challenging T20I series despite England rotations
Ireland head coach Heinrich Malan is sure England will still field a “quality side” in this week's T20I series, despite the changes to their squad.
England have rested their all-format players, including white-ball captain Harry Brook, for the three-match series ahead of this winter’s Ashes.
Twenty-one-year-old Jacob Bethell will be leading the squad in Ireland, making him the youngest man to captain England in an international in any format.
There have only been two previous meetings between the countries in this format, with no result in their 2010 encounter before Ireland won by five runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method at the T20 World Cup in 2022.
As they look to maintain that positive head-to-head record, Malan believes Ireland cannot afford to underestimate the strength of a much-changed England side.
“We obviously don't have anything to do with who they select; they have a depth of player that is really competitive. They've still got lots of good players, lots of quality,” said Malan.

“There's still some experience within their squad, and a sprinkle of some youth who have all shown their worth in The Hundred, so we're under no illusions that it's going to be a quality side.
“We'll have to make sure we do our homework and rock up prepared. We look at their squad and we plan accordingly.”
The first T20I at Malahide takes place on September 17, before two further fixtures on September 19 and 21.
