'I expect to be back the next game' – Wembanyama plays down injury concerns
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama insisted that he expects "to be back the next game" after suffering a knee injury in their win over the New York Knicks.
The center hobbled off the court early in the fourth quarter after he landed awkwardly when trying to catch a rebound.
The Frenchman returned to the bench later on in a 134-132 win for the Spurs, though he did not check back in to add to his 31 points and 13 rebounds.
Wembanyama revealed that the issue in his left knee was hyperextension, but he remains optimistic that he will feature for San Antonio against the Indiana Pacers on January 2.
"I expect to be back the next game," said Wembanyama. "I was confident. I was this close to coming back in the game. [They] had to hold me back.
"It was just hyperextension, so it should be minimal. We've got to do everything tomorrow still to check that everything's OK."

And San Antonio head coach Mitch Johnson added: "Have not been able to talk to the medical staff yet, but I think I saw what everybody else saw.
"Obviously, he finished the game on the bench with his teammates. So, I think that made me feel good."
The Spurs are the second seed in the Western Conference with a record of 24-9 this season, while they also reached the finals of the NBA Cup.
Along with Wembanyama's 31-point haul, Julian Champagnie made a franchise record 11 of his 17 attempts from beyond the arc to score 36 in the victory.
It was also a landmark game for Castle, who became the fastest Spurs player to reach 500 assists and 100 steals since Johnny Moore after his seven-assist display at Frost Bank Center.
