Guard Young to re-sign with Wizards
Trae Young plans to re-sign with the Washington Wizards on a four-year, $212million contract after declining his $48.97 million player option for the 2026-27 season last Wednesday.
The Atlanta Hawks traded the four-time All-Star to Washington on January 9 in exchange for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert.
Young appeared in just 15 games last season due to injuries, 10 with Atlanta and five with the Wizards.
The fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft averaged 19.3 points and 8.9 assists for the Hawks and 15.2 points and 6.2 assists with Washington.

That came after Young led the NBA with 11.6 assists per game in 2024-25.
He’s averaged 25.1 points, 9.8 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 498 career games.
The Wizards failed to reach the playoffs for the fifth straight season in 2025-26 and rank last in the NBA with 50 total wins over the past three seasons.
But Washington added veteran big man Anthony Davis in February and has up-and-coming players like Alexandre Sarr, Kyshawn George and Tre Johnson as well as the top pick in Tuesday’s draft.
