India continued to dominate on day two of their second Test against West Indies, thanks to standout performances from Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja.

The hosts declared on 518-5 midway through the day before impressing with the ball as they took four wickets, leaving West Indies trailing by 378 runs.

Despite beginning Saturday's play at 318-2, they did not make a strong start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) only adding two to his overnight total before being run out after a mix-up with Gill.

The captain did not let the resulting argument faze him, though, as he went on to claim an unbeaten 129, his fifth century since taking on the captaincy.

Nitish Kumar Reddy added 43 before being dismissed by Jomel Warrican (3-98), while Roston Chase sent stumps flying to stop Dhruv Jurel on 44 when India decided to stop their innings.

West Indies endured a disappointing display in the first Test, but looked stronger in Delhi, though Jadeja (3-37) was more than equal to it.

He stopped openers John Campbell (10) and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (34) early on before dealing West Indies another double blow in the 33rd and 34th overs.

Jadeja helped dismiss Alick Athanaze with a catch before he caught and bowled Chase for a duck in the next over.

Shai Hope and Tevin Imlach, on 31 and 14 respectively, will pick up at the crease on Sunday, with West Indies needing a big performance if they want to spring a shock.

Data Debrief: Leading by example

This is just Gill's seventh Test as India captain, and already he has racked up five centuries, taking his total for the Men in Blue to 10 overall.

Only England's Alistair Cook (nine) and India's Sunil Gavaskar (10) have taken fewer innings to reach five hundreds as a Test captain than Gill (12).

West Indies' opening troubles went on, though – they have now gone 40 innings without a hundred-run opening stand, while their last 50-run opening was 10 innings ago.
