
Thunder roll past hobbled 76ers for 12th consecutive victory
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 22 points, Jalen Williams scored 18 in his return from injury, and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers 123-103 on Monday night to extend their winning streak to 12 games.
Oklahoma City came out of the gates hot with 35 first-quarter points and expanded their lead to 62-38 late in the first half. The 76ers, who were again without any of their veteran stars, made a few small runs, but the Thunder controlled the entire second half.
The Thunder, who have used 29 different starting lineups this season, finally had their lineup back that led them to last season's NBA championship.
Chet Holmgren had 17 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots, while Isaiah Hartenstein finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds. None of Oklahoma City’s played more than 30 minutes.
Williams played for the first time since Feb. 11 and has played only three games since Jan. 17 due to a hamstring strain. He missed the first month of the season after undergoing offseason wrist surgery.
Jared McCain, who was traded from Philadelphia to Oklahoma City at the deadline, scored 13 points off the bench in his return to Xfinity Mobile Arena.
With the win, the NBA-leading Thunder improved to 57-15 and remained three games ahead of the charging San Antonio Spurs.
Rookie guard VJ Edgecombe scored a team-high 35 points for the 76ers, who remain without Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Paul George due to injury. The rest of Philadelphia’s starters combined for 24 points.
Trendon Watford added 15 points off the bench, as the 76ers (39-33), who dropped into seventh place in the Eastern Conference and on pace to be a participant in the play-in tournament.
Pistons end Lakers’ 9-game run
Daniss Jenkins capped a career night by hitting a go-ahead jumper with 25 seconds remaining, and the Detroit Pistons overcame 32 points from Luka Dončić to beat Los Angeles 113-110 and snap the Lakers’ nine-game winning streak.
After Jenkins’ go-ahead bucket, he hit two clutch free throws to finish the night with a career-high 30 points to go along with his eight assists.
Starting in place of the injured Cade Cunningham, Jenkins was 11 of 18 from the field and 4 for 5 from 3-point range.
Jalen Duren had 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Tobias Harris chipped in 14 points for the Pistons, who improved to 3-0 since Cunningham was diagnosed with a collapsed lung.
With the win, Detroit (52-19) increased their lead over the idle Boston Celtics in the East standings to five games with nine left to play.
Dončić, the NBA’s leading scorer, reached the 30-point milestone for the 10th consecutive game but missed a mid-range jumper with 12 seconds remaining and a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Dončić finished 11 of 29 from the floor and 3 for 13 from deep while adding seven rebounds and six assists.
Austin Reaves added 24 points, while LeBron James came up just short of a triple-double with 12 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists.
The Lakers (46-26) remained in third place in the West, holding a two-game lead over the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Spurs stay red-hot
Victor Wembanyama scored 26 points in 26 minutes, Dylan Harper and Keldon Johnson added 21 points apiece off the bench, and the San Antonio Spurs routed the Miami Heat 136-111 for their 22nd win in their last 24 games.
The Spurs led 76-58 at half-time then used a 13-0 third-quarter run to blow the game wide open.
Wembanyama shot 11 of 22 from the floor and added 15 rebounds and five blocked shots before being subbed out as San Antonio led by as many as 30.
Stephon Castle had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists in just 23 minutes as the Spurs (54-18) remained three games back of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the best record in the NBA.
Norman Powell led the Heat with 21 points off the bench. Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo each added 18 points.
Miami (38-34) have lost five straight games and appear to be headed toward a play-in appearance, ending the night in ninth place in the East.
