India batter Sanju Samson hailed team-mate Jasprit Bumrah as "a once-in-a-generation bowler" after they defeated England in the T20 World Cup semi-final.

Despite posting a total of 253-7, India won by just seven runs in Mumbai after a scintillating century from England's Jacob Bethell.

Samson's impressive 89 from just 47 balls, which featured eight fours and seven maximums, set the tone for India, who struck the fourth-highest total in T20 World Cup history.

However, with England gaining momentum in their chase, Bumrah conceded just six runs in the 18th over to all but secure the win for the co-hosts of the tournament.

Samson was named player of the match, and was glad to continue his form following an unbeaten 97 against West Indies last time out, though he felt Bumrah was the reason for India's win.

"It feels great. I had some form going from the last game and I needed to continue in a big game," said Samson.

"I prepared well and it came off. I got a bit lucky to start, but I wanted to carry on as we know no score is big enough here.

"All credit to Jasprit Bumrah – a once-in-a-generation bowler. This player of the match award should go to him for what he did.

"So, if he didn't bowl that way in the death overs, I would not be standing here. So all credit goes to the bowlers, how they backed themselves in the tough conditions."

India captain Suryakumar Yadav added: "Unbelievable feeling. Playing in India, leading an unbelievable side.

"Samson did what he knew right when he went in. [The] team required it from him, it was due.

"They were always in the chase, but the way the bowlers pulled the game away was unbelievable. You know how capable Bumrah is.

"Going for the title in India there will be pressure, but the players and support staff will be excited."

India will face New Zealand in the final on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
