Spurs rookie guard Harper out weeks
The San Antonio Spurs not only lost their first game of the season Sunday, but also star rookie guard Dylan Harper for multiple weeks with a left calf strain.
San Antonio selected Harper with the second overall pick of the NBA Draft in June, and the 19-year-old son of former NBA guard Ron Harper came off the bench to average 14.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists during the first 5-0 start in the history of the Spurs franchise.
Harper was on his way to another solid performance Sunday with 12 points in just 11 minutes of action, but he injured his calf in the second quarter of San Antonio's 130-118 road loss to the Phoenix Suns.
"We've seen great things from him, it's actually been hard to believe how good he's played," Spurs center Victor Wembanyama said after Sunday's defeat.
"But it happens, we have to be able to deal with injuries."
