Erik Spoelstra revealed he was filled with “incredible gratitude” after he won his 800th NBA game as the Miami Heat defeated the Milwaukee Bucks 106-103.

Tyler Herro starred for Miami, recording 29 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while Bam Adebayo contributed with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

It was Miami’s sixth win in a row, seeing them remain as the third seed in the Eastern Conference with a 13-6 record.

Spoelstra became the 17th coach in NBA history to win 800 games, while he is just the third to do so with only one team after Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs) and Jerry Sloan (Utah Jazz).

Spoelstra did not realise he reached the milestone until he was drenched with water by his players in the dressing room after the NBA Cup win.

“I was very confused,” Spoelstra said following the victory.

“I was calculating that maybe we've qualified for the Cup. Then I'm looking around and nobody else is getting water dumped on them, and I'm like, 'Wait a minute - what's going on here?’

“It hasn't sunk in yet because I wasn't aware of it. It's fitting that it comes on the eve of Thanksgiving.

“I just feel incredible gratitude for this organisation and all of these years. I'm having a hell of a time.

“I love what I do, I love coaching, I love this profession, I love working for this organisation, I love working for, and with, amazing players and staff - too many to count over the years.”

Herro, who was drafted as the 13th pick in the 2019 draft by the Heat, added: “It's huge.

“I'm trying to think of how old I was when Spo probably got his first one and then to be where he is now - he's got 800 of them - is insane.

“It's great to be a part of a great organisation who's historically been one of the top.”
