South Africa's De Kock reverses ODI retirement ahead of Pakistan tour
Quinton de Kock has reversed his retirement from one-day internationals after he was included in South Africa's ODI and T20 squads to face Pakistan next month.
De Kock, who retired from 50-over internationals after the 2023 World Cup, has not represented the Proteas since the final of the T20 World Cup last year.
The 32-year-old stepped back from Test cricket in 2021 and, while not calling time on his T20I career, was not included in any of South Africa's recent squads.
De Kock's return is a huge boost for South Africa ahead of next year's T20 World Cup, which takes place in Sri Lanka and India, as well as the ODI World Cup in 2027.
He has played 155 ODIs, in which he has amassed 6,770 runs, a total only bettered by Gary Kirsten (6,798), Graeme Smith (6,989), Herschelle Gibbs (8,094), Hashim Amla (8,113), AB de Villiers (9,427) and Jacques Kallis (11,550) for South Africa.
In 92 T20Is, he has 2,584 runs, more than any other South African player in the format, at a strike rate of 139.32.
"Quinton's return to the white-ball space is a major boost for us," South Africa coach Shukri Conrad said.
"When we spoke last month about his future, it was clear that he still has a strong ambition to represent his country.
"Everyone knows the quality he brings to the side, and having him back can only benefit the team."
The South African Men’s selection panel has named the squads for the upcoming all-format tour of Pakistan as well as the one-off T20 International (T20I) against Namibia.

South Africa will play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20s in Pakistan, starting on 12 October, with a one-off T20 match against Namibia following the tour.
The Proteas will, however, be without injured captain Temba Bavuma for their Tests against Pakistan, with Aiden Markram deputising in his absence.
South Africa will take four spinners on their Test tour, though Keshav Maharaj will only be available for the second test as he continues to recover from a groin problem.
Simon Harmer, who has not played a Test since March 2023, has earned a recall, while Senuran Muthusamy and Prenelan Subrayan make up the rest of the spin department.
South Africa have also opted to rest all their all-format players, except Corbin Bosch and Dewald Brevis, for the white-ball leg of the Pakistan tour.
David Miller will captain the T20I squad while Matthew Breetzke will lead the ODI squad.
