Gill's unbeaten knock gets India over the line in rain-delayed clash with Afghanistan
India defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the first ODI in Dharamsala, with Shubman Gill playing a starring role.
Saturday's clash was delayed by rain, and ultimately each team was limited to just 25 overs each.
Afghanistan batted first and put on 194 all out, with their innings carried by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
Opener Gurbaz scored 102 from just 51 deliveries, but Hashmatullah Shahidi (27) and Azmatullah Omarzai (26) were the only other batters to get into double figures for Afghanistan, as Gurnoor Brar (3-27), Harsh Dubey (3-47) and Arshdeep Singh (2-27) led India's charge with the ball.
Rohit Sharma (16) was run out in the sixth over of India's chase, but captain Gill steered the ship.
He plundered 84 from 66 balls, while Ishan Kishan's flurry of 34 helped keep India well on track.
Shreyas Iyer (12) fell in the 18th over, but KL Rahul (39) stepped in and, alongside Gill, guided India over the line with 13 balls remaining.

Gill reaches India landmark
Gill has now scored 3,035 ODI runs. He is the 21st India batter to surpass 3,000 runs in the format.
He has reached the milestone in 62 innings, which ranks second fastest in one-day cricket, behind Hashim Amla (57 innings).
Afghanistan, meanwhile, have seen a winning run of four straight ODIs come to an end.
But Gurbaz, like Gill, did have a milestone to celebrate. He has now surpassed 2,000 ODI runs, and is on nine tons in the format, which is more than any other Afghanistan player has managed.
