Medvedev suffers first-round exit to Humbert at Rotterdam Open
Daniil Medvedev was knocked out in the first round of the Rotterdam Open by Ugo Humbert.
The fourth seed, who won the competition in 2023, lost 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 in two hours and 22 minutes in his first match since his fourth-round exit at the Australian Open.
Both players started strong on serve, with Humbert saving the only break point in the first before the tiebreak.
The Frenchman raced into a 4-1 lead in the tiebreak before holding serve to put pressure on the former champion.
Medvedev responded promptly in the second, saving two break points in the opening game before taking Humbert's serve on his way to forcing a deciding set.
Humbert then bounced back in the third, breaking Medvedev to go 3-1 up before clinching victory with his second match point, despite the best efforts of his counterpart.

Data Debrief: A match of fine margins
Just two break points were converted in the match, one by each player, but Humbert's defence in the third set proved crucial.
Humbert saved seven of the eight break points he faced in total, with six of those coming in the deciding set as he held on for victory.
He now holds a 4-1 record over Medvedev in ATP-level matches, with the latter suffering his first opening-round loss at a competition since last season's US Open.
