Swiatek links up with Nadal's former coach Roig
Iga Swiatek has hired Francisco Roig, who worked with Rafael Nadal throughout the Spaniard's glittering career, as her new coach.
Swiatek parted ways with former coach Wim Fissette after losing to Magda Linette in the second round of the Miami Open last month.
That defeat ended Swiatek's extraordinary streak of 73 consecutive victories in her opening match at WTA Tour events, which dated back to the WTA Finals in 2021.
And, with her previous match being a quarter-final loss to Elina Svitolina at Indian Wells, Swiatek has lost five straight meetings with top-10 opponents for the very first time.
Roig most recently worked with Emma Raducanu, though the bulk of his work was with Nadal, having been present for 16 of his 22 grand slam titles.

In an Instagram story, Swiatek wrote: "Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter."
Swiatek's next tournament is the Stuttgart Tennis Grand Prix, which begins on April 11, before the Madrid Open starts on April 20.
That tournament, along with the Internazionali d'Italia, will serve as Swiatek's primary build-up to the French Open, as she targets a fifth Roland-Garros crown in seven years.
