Krishna and Jaiswal the stars as India ease to third ODI win over Afghanistan
Prasidh Krishna took his first ODI five-for and Yashasvi Jaiswal struck his second century in the format as India crushed Afghanistan to seal a 3-0 series whitewash on Saturday.
India needed just 29 overs to chase down a target of 219, with a first 50-over ton from Hashmatullah Shahidi not enough to guide the tourists to a respectable total.
Azmatullah Omarzai also struck a half-century for Afghanistan, joining Shahidi in a 117-run stand for their fifth wicket. But the struggles of their top order had already put them on the back foot by then, with Kirshna having single-handedly dropped them to 36-4 inside 10 overs.
The India paceman had each of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (5), Rahmat Shah (5), Ibrahim Zadran (11) and Darwish Rasooli (1) caught early on, and his fifth wicket was the big one as Shahidi (102) pulled his delivery straight to Shreyas Iyer.
And in a far cry from Afghanistan's stumbling start, India duo Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma put on a 170-run opening partnership, with the hosts already closing in on victory by the time the latter was caught by Sediqullah Atal for 79.
Shreyas Iyer scored just over a run-a-ball at 20 off 19, but it was Jaiswal who put India on his back, thundering two sixes and one four in his final four balls faced to finish unbeaten on 110 and get the job done early.

Krishna and Jaiswal provide heroics on either side of the ball
Krishna's previous best ODI figures were the 4-12 he managed against West Indies in February 2022, while he had failed to take a wicket in the first ODI between these teams a week ago.
But he was irresistible in Chennai on Saturday to make the third match in the series something of a procession for India.
He finished with figures of 5-23, having started as he meant to go on by removing Gurbaz from the very first ball he delivered, at the start of the second over.
Afghanistan's only real resistance came from Shahidi, who struck his maiden ODI century, but the tourists had two separate batting collapses either side of his stand with Omarzai, and ultimately, it was Krishna that removed him too.
With the bat, India could rely on Jaiswal, who now has two centuries in just six ODI appearances, also hitting an unbeaten 116 versus South Africa last December.
Following this series whitewash, India go to Ireland for two T20Is at the end of this month, ahead of five 20-over matches and three ODIs versus England.
