Tanzid Hasan scored his first Test ton as Bangladesh built a 153-run lead on day two against Australia.

Hasan Mahmud was the star of the show for Bangladesh on day one in Darwin, taking 6-55 as Australia were bowled out for just 198.

Bangladesh reached stumps on 96-1, and the tourists enjoyed another brilliant day on Friday.

Tanzid was the main man for Bangladesh, as he struck 101 from 197 deliveries.

Josh Hazlewood (2-68) took the first wicket of the day when Mominul Haque fell for 49, with Bangladesh having added 142 to their overnight total.

It was another 26 overs until Nathan Lyon (1-92) finally got the better of Tanzid, but Najmul Hossain Shanto was stepping up to take over the charge.

He was eventually dismissed by Hazlewood for 84, before Litton Das (0) and Mushfiqur Rahim (36) fell to Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, respectively, as Bangladesh reached stumps on 351-6.

Smith equals Root with trio of catches

It was generally a day to forget for Australia, but it was a memorable one for Steve Smith.

He took three catches in the slips, dismissing Shanto, Mushfiqur and Das, and in the process, equalled a record set by England's Joe Root.

Smith and Root have now taken 218 catches in Test cricket, which is the joint-record for non-wicket-keepers.

Despite Smith's sharp work in the field, Opta's predictive model is forecasting Bangladesh to finish their first innings on 418, which would present Australia with a sizeable challenge to overcome.
