England must chase down 130 to complete a series sweep against Pakistan after some tremendous batting from debutant Razaullah saw the tourists resist at Edgbaston on Friday.

The hosts looked on track to wrap up the third and final Test within two days on Thursday, but rain halted play early with Pakistan reeling at 52-2, 268 runs behind.

Few would have expected the tourists to take the contest to a fourth day at that point, but that is precisely what they did on a frustrating day for Joe Root's England.

Pakistan had not scored 200 or batted beyond 51 overs in the series before Friday, but steady scoring from Azan Awais (59), Shan Masood (95) and Babar Azam (76) not only postponed their defeat but inched them towards England's first-innings score of 453.

Masood was denied his century by a stunning one-handed catch from Dan Lawrence, who also accounted for Awais following a review.

Pakistan were two runs behind England at 318-8, with around two hours of play still to go, but Razaullah (81) put on a 121-run partnership with Mohammad Abbas (42) to drag the match into the weekend.

Razaullah only needed 43 balls to thump his half-century and continued to plug away before falling to the 63rd he faced, being stumped by Jordan Cox off Lawrence's full-on delivery as Pakistan were bowled out for 449.

Razaullah matches Southee record

It has been a miserable tour for Pakistan overall, and anything other than an England victory on Saturday would be a monumental shock.

But Razaullah has at least provided a bright spark on his red-ball debut, smacking nine sixes while batting at number nine.

That is the joint-most by any debutant in the format, alongside New Zealand's Tim Southee versus England in 2008.

Among the other accolades to fall his way were the fastest fifty on debut for Pakistan and the highest debut score while batting at No. 9 or lower for Pakistan.

His big hitting has surely only delayed the inevitable, but Pakistan have at least tasked England with doing a professional job on Saturday.
