Sri Lanka pull off stunning ODI chase against England despite Brook's double century
Sri Lanka recorded the second-highest run chase in ODI history to defeat England by two wickets in the tri-series.
England captain Harry Brook scored the fastest double century in the format as they recorded a total of 429-4, but Sri Lanka were smashed across the line by Janith Liyanage on the penultimate delivery.
Tom Banton (50) got England off to a strong start before both he and Ben Duckett (29) were dismissed by Dunith Wellalage (2-56).
Joe Root (69) put on a 159-run stand with Brook (202), who had an answer for everything the Sri Lanka bowlers threw at him.
Asitha Fernando (1-68) managed to remove Root, but Will Jacks came in to smash 66 off 30 while Brook reached his double century before being caught in the deep with the final ball of the innings.
Sri Lanka's chase got off to a shaky start as Kamindu Mendis (18) was bowled by Josh Tongue (3-79), while Kusal Mendis was run out before facing a single delivery.
Nevertheless, Pavan Rathnayake (130) and Avishka Fernando (97) steadied the ship with a 166-run partnership, before Dasun Shanaka leathered 97 off 50 to boost Sri Lanka's run rate.
Needing eight off the final over, Sri Lanka's nerves were jangling as Tongue took two wickets in as many balls, but Liyanage (61) stood tall and swatted a six down the ground to clinch a historic win.

Sri Lanka produce big statement in Rawalpindi
After both sides lost to Pakistan in their tri-series opener, they were desperate to get a win on the board in Rawalpindi.
Brook's stellar knock seemed to be enough for England; he recorded the fastest ODI double hundred, the highest ODI score for England, the first ODI double century for England and the highest ODI score at Rawalpindi.
And only two players have scored an ODI double hundred without opening the batting – Brook and Australia's Glenn Maxwell.
However, Sri Lanka did the unexpected. Only South Africa's successful chase of 438 in 2006 against Australia is bigger than Sri Lanka's 430.
It is a huge victory for Sri Lanka ahead of next year's ODI World Cup, though they will be desperate to now reach the final of this tri-series.
England face Pakistan in what must be considered a must-win showdown on Sunday, two days before Sri Lanka take on the hosts again.
