Jannik Sinner announced he will miss the US Open with a knee injury.

The world number one's last match was the Wimbledon final on July 12, when he defeated Alexander Zverev to retain his title at SW19.

The 25-year-old previously pulled out of the Cincinnati Open, and will now also miss the final major of the season.

Sinner's announcement comes a day after Carlos Alcaraz confirmed he will return from a long absence to feature at Flushing Meadows.

"Even though I have been working hard with my team and my medical staff, we have now had to make the difficult decision that I will not be able to compete at the US Open this year," Sinner said on social media.

"We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue.

"I'm obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart."

Sinner has enjoyed an impressive 2026 campaign, winning ATP-1000 titles in Miami, Indian Wells, Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome in addition to his Wimbledon triumph.

With his Indian Wells title, he became just the third male player to win all six ATP-1000 hard-court events, after Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Sinner also became the first player to win the Sunshine Double (Indian Wells and Miami) without dropping a set.

His active winning streak of 34 matches in ATP-1000 events is the longest, and he achieved the feat while becoming the first male player to win six consecutive titles in such events.
