Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will make his return to action at next month's US Open after spending four months on the sidelines with a wrist injury.

Alcaraz, who is the defending champion at Flushing Meadows, confirmed the news on Thursday, writing on social media: "Here we go!" accompanied by the United States flag.

The 23-year-old has been out of action since April 14, when he picked up the injury in a victory over Otto Virtanen at the Barcelona Open.

Since then, the Spaniard has missed the French Open, a title he won in 2025, as well as Wimbledon, where he is a two-time champion at the All England Club.

Alcaraz has been unable to take part in three Masters tournaments and briefly dropped to third in the rankings following Alexander Zverev's French Open triumph.

This season, Alcaraz holds a record of 22-3, most recently losing to world number one Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo final.

His return to action could mean he suits up for September's Laver Cup, as well as the Shanghai Masters, the Paris Masters and ATP Finals before the end of the year.

Alcaraz won his first major title at the US Open in 2022, going on to reclaim his crown in 2025 when he beat Sinner 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 in the final.

However, there remains a question of whether Alcaraz will be able to renew his rivalry with Sinner at the US Open.

Sinner missed the ongoing Cincinnati Open this month with a knee injury and is yet to provide an update on his availability for the final major of the year.

If Alcaraz were to retain his US Open title, he would become the first male player to do so since Roger Federer, who won five in a row between 2004 and 2008.
