Ben Shelton swatted aside Stefanos Tsitsipas to book his place in the quarter-finals of the US Open.

Shelton won 6-2 6-3 6-4 in an hour and 53 minutes to set up a last-eight showdown with reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz.

The home favourite wasted no time in finding his rhythm, converting a break point in Tsitsipas' first service game before doing so again in the eighth game to win the first set.

Shelton required just one break point, which came in the sixth game, to win the second as Tsitsipas struggled to create any opening of his own.

Tsitsipas successfully defended two break points early on in the third, but could not save a third as Shelton cruised to victory at Flushing Meadows.

Shelton will be joined in the quarter-finals by Frances Tiafoe, who defeated seventh seed Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 7-6 (8-6).

Shelton finding confidence on home soil

Shelton has claimed his first straight-sets win in the second week of a grand slam event.

It was also his first straight-sets victory at the US Open this year, having defeated Tallon Griekspoor, Hubert Hurkacz and Denis Shapovalov in four sets.

Shelton (2023 and 2026) has become the fourth American left-hander to reach multiple quarter-finals at the US Open after Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Roscoe Tanner.

Tiafoe, meanwhile, is the first player ranked outside the ATP top 10 to claim 5+ consecutive ATP top-10 wins since Holger Rune, en route to the title in Paris in 2022.

He is also the first American to achieve the feat since Mardy Fish in 2010, and Tiafoe has a great chance of reaching the semi-finals, with unseeded Alex Michelsen up next.
