Coco Gauff booked her place in the quarter-finals of the US Open with a straight-sets victory over Iva Jovic.

The fourth seed won 6-1 6-4 against her compatriot to set up a last-eight showdown against Mirra Andreeva, with the top six seeds all still in the tournament.

Jovic and Gauff traded breaks to start the match, while the latter secured two more on her way to winning the first set with ease.

Teenager Jovic defended three break points early in the second before the pair traded breaks again, but Gauff's converted break point in the ninth game proved crucial.

Gauff faced some resistance while serving for the match as Jovic took a 0-30 lead, but Gauff reeled off three consecutive points before clinching victory with her first match point.

"I think I just welcome it," Gauff said on the magnitude of playing in a grand slam quarter-final.

"I don't know how to say this without, like - a quarter-final for me, I feel like I'm at the point where I'm used to being in this position.

"I'm constantly putting myself in quarter-finals, so the moment doesn't seem as big anymore.

"I'm very lucky to play, be here in the quarter-final. Obviously, I hope to play many more, so I think it's the fine line of appreciating the moment.

"I think so many people would love to reach a grand slam quarter-final, but also knowing that I put myself in this position so many times that I should almost be used to it."

Familiar territory for Gauff

Gauff has reached the last eight at the US Open for the first time since 2023, when she went on to win the tournament.

Since 2000, only two players have reached more grand slam quarter-finals than Gauff (12, level with Kim Clijsters) before the age of 23 – Serena Williams (15) and Maria Sharapova (13).

The top six seeds have reached the women's singles quarter-final at the US Open for the first time since 1998.

The second seed (Lindsey Davenport) ended up defeating the first seed (Martina Hingis) in the final en route to becoming world number one that season for the first time.

Gauff, meanwhile, could have her work cut out for her against 2026 French Open champion Andreeva, but the American is in fine form herself, having won each of her last nine matches in straight sets.
