Iga Swiatek cruised into the quarter-finals at the Wuhan Open with a straight-sets victory over Ashlyn Krueger.

The seventh seed needed an hour and 34 minutes to win 6-1 6-4, marking her 150th victory in WTA-1000 events.

Swiatek converted two of her first four break points to race into a 4-0 lead, but had to save two of her own to go 5-0 up and eventually win the opening set.

Krueger applied early pressure in the second, but Swiatek saved all four of the break points she faced before taking her opponent's serve in game five.

The pair then exchanged breaks before Swiatek clinched victory and a spot in the last eight with her third match point.

Elina Svitolina also made light work of her last-16 tie, defeating home favourite Hanyu Guo 6-1 6-4.

The Ukrainian will face Sonay Kartal in the quarter-finals after the Brit stunned Jasmine Paolini with a 6-2 6-0 victory in Wuhan.

Sixth seed Karolina Muchova was also knocked out in the last eight after losing 7-5 6-3 against Diana Shnaider.

Swiatek reaches milestone in record time

Among the seven players to achieve 150 WTA-1000 wins since the format's introduction in 2009, Swiatek (187) has now done so in the fewest matches.

And since the Tier format's introduction in 1990, Swiatek (150) is only the third player to achieve 150+ match wins within her first 50 Tier I/WTA-1000 main draws, along with Martina Hingis (162) and Serena Williams (153).

With top seed Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula both out of the tournament already, Swiatek has a great chance to win her first title since August, when she won in Toronto.

Svitolina is also enjoying a strong season. She has made the outright most WTA level quarter-finals in 2026 (13) – she is the third player in the 2000s to reach 13+ WTA level quarter-finals in a season after turning 30, after Nathalie Tauziat in 2000 and Williams in 2013.

Kartal, meanwhile, is now the lowest-ranked player (#170) to reach the quarter-finals at the Wuhan Open, since the tournament's inception in 2014.
