Emma Navarro set up an all-American clash with Jessica Pegula in the quarter-finals of the Bad Homburg Open with victory over Naomi Osaka on Tuesday.

Navarro, who is the fifth seed at the tournament, needed just one hour and 29 minutes to earn a 6-4 6-4 victory over the former world number one.

Her reward is a clash against compatriot Pegula, who produced a dominant display earlier in the day to dispatch 2023 winner Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.

Navarro started as she meant to go in with a break in the fifth game of the opening set before reeling off the final three games to edge closer to the next round.

Osaka, who picked up her first grass-court victory of the season in the last round, missed three opportunities to break her opponent in the fourth game of the second.

And Navarro took advantage of that reprieve, and, as she did in the first set, won the final three games to book her place in the next round.

Data Debrief: Navarro ramps up Wimbledon preparations

World number 10 Navarro reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last year, beating Osaka on her way to the last eight, in what was their only previous meeting before Tuesday.

She impressed on serve, winning 74% (26/35) of her first-serve points, while also converting three of the nine break points she created for herself.

Navarro is also into her third-straight quarter-final at the tournament, while improving her record to 8-2 at the German event.

And despite Osaka firing nine aces without reply, she was unable to match the serving prowess of Navarro as she suffered an early exit from yet another tournament.
