Phoenix Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts knows a come-from-behind WNBA Finals triumph is likely beyond his team, but he wants them to take it one game at a time.

The Mercury are 3-0 down to the Las Vegas Aces following Wednesday's 90-88 defeat in Game 3, which was sealed by A'ja Wilson's jumper with 0.3 seconds remaining.

This is the first time the WNBA Finals have used a best-of-seven format, but under the previous five-game format, no team ever overturned a 2-0 deficit to win the title.

And in the NBA, where the Finals have always been a best-of-seven series, no team has ever won the Championship after losing the first three games.

Tibbetts understands the scale of the task facing his team, who are at home for Game 4 on Friday, but he does not expect his players to wave the white flag.

"We're not into moral victories," Tibbetts said after Game 3. "This is a game that we wanted to get, that we needed to get.

"I don't know how many teams have come down from 0-3. Not many, right? So I'm not going to sugarcoat that.

"We've got a tough road ahead, but we've got to take it one game at a time. This group has been a group that has continued to compete at a high level.

"We're going to expect that. We're in front of our fans. We've got a certain level of pride that we're going to continue to keep fighting."
