James reportedly to play in 2026-27, but not with Lakers
LeBron James has told the Los Angeles Lakers he won't play for them in the 2026-27 NBA season.
James informed the franchise on Tuesday that he will sign with another team when free agency opens, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
The Lakers reportedly wanted him to return, but he will play his 24th season elsewhere.
There have been rumours that the league's all-time leading scorer will join the Golden State Warriors, teaming up with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and possibly Anthony Davis. A return to the Cleveland Cavaliers has also been mentioned.

James joined the Lakers in 2018-19, and in eight seasons with the franchise, he led them to the 2020 NBA championship and six play-off berths.
Despite being 41 years old, the future Hall of Famer is still playing at a high level.
In his 23rd pro season in 2025-26, James was named to his 22nd NBA All-Star Game, with averages of 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds in 60 contests.
