Abhishek Sharma made history on Thursday as his 34-ball 108 led India to a convincing 127-run victory against Afghanistan to complete a sweep of the three-match T20I series.

Abhishek struck the fastest T20I hundred amongst test-playing nations, reaching his century in just 30 deliveries, with Sanju Samson also chipping in with 50 of his own. 

Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravi Bishnoi then starred with the ball, taking three wickets each to skittle Afghanistan out for just 94 with just over five overs of their innings remaining. 

India got off to a lightning start with Abhishek and Samson at the crease, reaching 100 after six overs before the former was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the 10th over. 

Tilak Varma (2) was run out soon after before Azmatullah Omarzai grabbed two wickets in quick succession, first ending Samson's innings with Shivam Dube (14) soon following.

Ishan Kishan (10), Reddy (1) and Shreyas Iyer (29) were all then dismissed to see India end their innings 221-7, and they got to work on Afghanistan's batting order quickly. 

Axar Patel struck twice in the fourth over to send Rahmanullah Gurbaz (15) and Sediqullah Atal (1) packing, with Darwish Rasooli (0) then bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah (1-16). 

From there, only Omarzai (17) and Noor ul Rahman (11) reached double figures for Afghanistan, as Bishnoi (3-26) and Reddy (3-25) cleaned up the bottom order.

Abhishek's rapid century compounds miserable series for Afghanistan

With just pride to play for after losing the first two matches by seven wickets, Afghanistan would have been hoping to put on a more competitive display, but they were met by an inspired Abhishek, who made history with his innings. 

His 30-ball ton was India's fastest in the shortest format against a full member nation. Rohit Sharma held the previous record after doing so in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017, while Finn Allen's 33-ball hundred against South Africa earlier this year in the T20 World Cup semi-final was the previous fastest against a full member nation.

Abhishek's ton is also the third-fastest in all T20Is behind only Estonia's Sahil Chauhan against Cyprus off 27 balls in 2024 and Turkey's Muhammad Fahad against Bulgaria in 2025, and it was his contribution that laid the foundations for India's emphatic win. 

Following the end of the powerplay, India found themselves 100-0, which is their highest total in T20Is. Their previous highest was 95-1 against England at Wankhede in 2025. Overall, eight teams have made 100 or more runs in the first six overs of a men's T20I innings before India, where ball-by-ball data is available.
