Dan Lawrence reached an unbeaten half-century as England mounted a 357-run lead over Pakistan on day three at Lord's.

Much of Saturday's play was disrupted by rain, with only 24.5 overs bowled.

Play was eventually abandoned amid boos from the spectators that remained, with the weather having finally cleared up.

After the delayed start, England resumed play 261 runs ahead, Mohammad Abbas (3-48) dismissed Emilio Gay (31) to get Pakistan up and running.

Harry Brook reached 34 before he was also sent packing by Abbas, who then picked up the wicket of Jamie Smith (7) soon after.

However, Lawrence provided a steadying hand with a cool 50 not out, and even though Gus Atkinson (7) also fell, England are well in control heading into day four, on 177-7.

Lawrence lets loose

The weather forecast was never likely to be kind to England, but Lawrence ensured he made the most of the chance to add some runs to their total.

He needed 39 balls to get to 19, but then he went on the attack, with 10 runs from two Mohammad Ali deliveries signalling a change in approach.

In the end, he got to his 50 in just 64 balls, though only two more deliveries were permitted before the weather closed in once again,

England will now be hoping for clearer skies on Sunday, with victory well within their grasp.

Pakistan, at least, can at least reflect well on the performance of Abbas, who was their standout bowler and picked up some damaging wickets.
