Jackie Young made certain the Aces would leave Las Vegas with a series lead in the WNBA Finals.

Young scored a WNBA Finals record 21 points in the third quarter, and totalled 32 overall in Sunday’s 91-78 win over the Phoenix Mercury to help the Aces grab a 2-0 lead.

Game 3 is in Phoenix on Wednesday.

While Young took over after half-time, A'Ja Wilson scored 20 of her 28 points in the first two periods. She also had 14 rebounds, while Chelsea Gray had 10 points and 10 assists for the Aces, who are closing in on a third WNBA title in four years.

Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with 23 points and Satou Sabally scored 22, but she was just 7 of 19 from the floor and missed 7 of 9 3-point attempts. Phoenix made only 5 of 28 shots from 3-point range (17.9 per cent) with three of those 3s coming in the first period.

The Mercury scored the game's first seven points and led 27-24 after one quarter, but then managed just 10 points in the second period.

They will hope to pull within a game of the Aces when they return to Phoenix, where they are 3-1 in the play-offs.
