The Minnesota Timberwolves will be without All-NBA guard Anthony Edwards for up to two months as he is scheduled to undergo an arthroscopic operation on his right knee, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

Edwards had been listed on the injury report with knee soreness ahead of Monday’s overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played 41 minutes and scored 47 points.

Edwards missed several games at the end of last regular season with discomfort in his right knee, but the Timberwolves were able to go 12-9 without him in 2025-26.

This roster construction of this year’s squad, however, is different after the offseason departures of Julius Randle and Naz Reid.

Until Edwards returns, Minnesota will rely more on LaMelo Ball and Ayo Dosunmu to create offence.

Entering Tuesday’s games, Edwards was second in the league in scoring at 33.3 points per game while averaging 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

Ball has averaged 14.8 points and 6.3 assists so far this season as he adjusts to his new teammates.

The injury bug has bitten the NBA hard early this season, with several star players already set to miss extended time. Among the players already recovering from injuries are the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Jalen Williams and Cason Wallace, the Orlando Magic’s Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs and the Utah Jazz’s Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lauri Markkanen.
