Mirra Andreeva progressed into the quarter-finals of the Adelaide International after a straight-sets victory over Marie Bouzkova.

The 18-year-old won 6-3 6-1 in 70 minutes, bouncing back from her quarter-final defeat to Marta Kostyuk in the Brisbane International in emphatic style.

Andreeva got off to a slow start against Bouzkova, losing her first service game while also failing to convert two break-point opportunities three games later.

However, the momentum swung in the teenager’s favour as she secured back-to-back breaks on her way to securing the first.

Andreeva did not look back from there on in, converting all three break points that came her way in the second, the last of which was also her first match point.

Elsewhere, Venus Williams was unable to pick up her first win of 2026 after losing to Tatjana Maria in Hobart.

Maria won 6-4 6-3 against the seven-time grand slam champion, with Williams losing her serve five times across the match.

Data Debrief: Andreeva ruthless on serve

The difference between Andreeva and Bouzkova was highlighted on their respective serves.

Andreeva won 76.5% of her first serve points compared to Bouzkova’s 47.1%, while she also served two aces to her counterpart’s 0.

Meanwhile, the combined age of 84 years and 1 day between Williams and Maria will be the oldest between two opponents in a main draw match at WTA level, since the WTA was founded in 1973 (age calculated at the start of the event).
