Tiger Woods is set to play his first PGA Tour event in seven months at the Genesis Invitational, which takes place next month at Torrey Pines.

His involvement was confirmed by the event's organisers and announced on their social media accounts on Friday.

They said he was "committed" to playing at the event, which he has never won, twice finishing second in 1998 and 1999.

This will be Woods' first professional event since missing the cut at the Open Championship last July at Troon.

The 15-time major champion has not played regularly since sustaining major injuries in a car crash in February 2021 and had further surgery on his back in September last year.

He did play with his son Charlie in a 36-hole event in December and has featured in Tomorrow's Golf League, which he co-founded along with Rory McIlroy.

The Genesis Invitational, which is hosted by Woods, was due to take place at the Riviera County Club but last month it was announced that it would be relocated to Torrey Pines due to the wildfires in Los Angeles.
