Wizards expect Davis to play this season
Anthony Davis may play for the Washington Wizards this season after all.
A day after it was reported Washington was likely going to shut down the injured centre, Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said Sunday he expects Davis to play this season.
Washington acquired Davis from the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday as part of an eight-player deal, though Davis has been sidelined since sustaining ligament damage in his left hand on January 8.
His initial expected return timeline was set at six weeks, and Dawkins said the Wizards will have a better idea of a potential timetable for a return when he is evaluated over the All-Star break.
"The plan for AD right now is to go back to Dallas and finish his rehab," Dawkins said. "During All-Star break, he takes another visit for a doctor. And that's a big appointment for us to kind of see where his progress is at."
Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said pregame that he anticipates Anthony Davis will play at some point this season. Davis is planning to return to Dallas to continue his rehab with his group of physios. The Wizards' medical staff will go to Dallas to work with him as well.

Davis averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.65 blocks for Dallas, but was limited to just 20 games due to various injuries.
The Wizards (14-37) entered play Sunday tied with the Brooklyn Nets for the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference.
