Carlos Alcaraz eased into the third round at Wimbledon following a straight-sets victory over home hopeful Oliver Tarvet.

After being pushed all the way in his opening match in SW19 by Fabio Fognini, Alcaraz had no such issues as he cruised to a 6-1 6-4 6-4 win in two hours and 16 minutes.

The Spaniard will face Felix Auger-Aliassime or Jan-Lennard Struff in the next round, which seemed inevitable after surging to the first set in double quick time.

But Tarvet, who defeated Leandro Riedi in the first round, took a surprise 2-0 lead in the second, but Alcaraz quickly regained focus to win five of the remaining seven games.

Backed by the home support on his Centre Court debut, Tarvet produced some moments of brilliance against the second seed, but Alcaraz proved too much in the third set.

He sealed the win with a fine serve that Tarvet could only return into the net, with Alcaraz sharing an embrace with his opponent at the net.

"First of all I have to give a big congratulations to Oliver. It's his second match on the tour. I just loved his game to be honest, the level he played in the first match on Centre Court, which I know is very difficult," Alcaraz said.

"He had great tennis and I knew at the beginning that I had to be really focused and play my best tennis. I was really happy with my performance today."

Earlier in the day, Joao Fonseca teed up a third round clash with qualifier Nicolas Jarry after defeating Jenson Brooksby across four thrilling sets.

The Brazilian took just over three hours to dispatch his opponent, earning a 6-4 5-7 6-2 6-4 victory.

Indeed, aged 18 years and 313 days, Fonseca became the youngest player to reach the men's singles round of 32 at Wimbledon and Roland-Garros in a season since Andy Roddick (18y 299d) in 2001.

Data Debrief: Age is just a number

Alcaraz has been in imperious form of late, with his latest triumph his 20th Tour-level win in a row. At 22 years and 356 days old, he is the youngest to accumulate that many consecutive victories at ATP level since Juan Martin del Potro (19y 336d) in 2008.

In addition, he became the youngest player in the Open Era to claim 30+ consecutive men's singles match wins at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, surpassing Bjorn Bjorg (22y 356d).

Alcaraz also brought up his 20th men's singles match win at Wimbledon in 22 matches. In the Open Era, only Rod Laver (21) has claimed that many wins in fewer matches at the event.
