Mirra Andreeva raced into the round of 16 at Wimbledon with a comfortable 6-1 6-3 victory over American Hailey Baptiste on No.1 Court.

Seventh seed Andreeva – who is among the tournament favourites following a swathe of big-name eliminations in the opening week – is yet to drop a set through three matches at this year's Championships.

Andreeva started as she meant to go on with an immediate break, and when Baptiste missed a chance to hit back in game four, that kickstarted a four-game winning run to hand the Russian the opening set.

Baptiste showed heart in the second set, breaking back with a wonderful cross-court backhand after Andreeva had inched ahead, but the respite was only temporary.

Andreeva responded with another break – this one to love as Baptiste failed to find her forehand range – to go 4-2 up, then served out the victory in serene fashion.

The teenager, whose 35 tour-level wins this year are only bettered by Aryna Sabalenka (45) and Iga Swiatek (37), could face reigning champion Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round, if the Czech overcomes Emma Navarro.

Elsewhere, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro beat Dayana Yastremska 6-1 2-6 6-3 to tee up a last-16 meeting with Liudmila Samsonova, who beat Daria Kasatkina 6-2 6-3.

Bouzas Maneiro, who eliminated 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova at last year's Championships, is the first Spanish woman in the Open Era to see her first grand slam fourth-round appearance come at SW19.

Andreeva's breakout grand slam run came at Wimbledon in 2023, as she reached the fourth round as a 16-year-old before losing to Madison Keys.

Two years on and with runs to the semi-finals (in 2024) and quarter-finals (2025) of Roland-Garros under her belt, Andreeva could be primed to take advantage of a wide-open draw.

The 18-year-old is gaining consistency and has reached at least the last 16 at the first three majors of the year, becoming just the fourth player to achieve that feat in a single season before turning 19 this century, after Kim Clijsters (2001), Maria Sharapova (2005) and Nicole Vaidisova (2006 and 2007).

Andreeva also has 10 grand slam match wins to her name this year, becoming the youngest player to achieve double figures in a single season since Caroline Wozniacki in 2008.
