West Indies captain Roston Chase said he is determined to end their wait for a Test win in New Zealand in the final match of the series.

After the first game ended in a draw, New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series with a nine-wicket victory in Wellington.

Despite trailing by 73 runs after the first innings, the tourists were skittled for just 128 before Kane Williamson and Devon Conway got the hosts over the line on day three.

New Zealand are now unbeaten in their last 16 Tests at home against West Indies, winning 11 and drawing five since last losing to them on home soil in February 1995.

Chase is optimistic that the Windies can put an end to their misery in New Zealand, but insisted they must produce better batting performances to do so.

“The last time we won in New Zealand was in 1995, so we want to leave here with a win,” Chase said.

“We still think that we are capable enough to get a win, but it's just for us to be consistent, because the bowlers have shown that they're capable of getting us those ten wickets or 20 wickets that we need to get.

“A number of batsmen getting some starts, but we didn't really convert into anything big. We left some runs up there in the first innings, and we thought that we would have gotten those runs in the second innings, but it didn't happen.

“So very disappointing for us after the bowlers really put up their hands and brought us back into the game.”

The third Test gets underway on December 18 at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
