Toronto Raptors’ Sandro Mamukelashvili believes former team-mate Victor Wembanyama is “just getting started” after another impressive performance on Monday.

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Raptors 121-103 to join reigning champions the Oklahoma City Thunder as the only teams in the Western Conference to start the season 4-0.

Wembanyama scored 24 points in the win, making seven of his eight shots from the field and shooting 100% from the free-throw line (10/10), while also registering 15 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.

The Frenchman is currently averaging 31 points, 13.8 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game, and was named Western Conference Player of the Week.

Mamukelashvili, who was team-mates with Wembanyama before being traded to the Raptors during the summer, insisted the best is yet to come from the 21-year-old.

“I think he’s just getting started,” said Mamukelashvili. “He’s figuring it out.

“He’s been amazing. He’s using his size a lot more, driving harder, using his length, the extra step.

“Wemby’s Wemby. He’s fearless. He plays hard. And defensively, he kind of changes everybody’s idea.

“He’s going to muck up the whole paint so you don’t even want to drive.

“I think the first two years were more of, ‘Okay, this is what I want to do and this is how I’m going to do it,’ and kind of finding it.

“He found it. I imagine he’s just going to keep getting better, keep figuring out how he can get to where he wants to get and get physically stronger.

“This is just the beginning. I’m looking forward to seeing what he does and hopefully, he stays healthy.”
