Jaylen Brown had 33 points and 10 rebounds, Derrick White made six 3-pointers to finish with 27 points and the Boston Celtics beat the Pistons 117-114 on Wednesday to snap Detroit’s 13-game winning streak.

The Pistons’ run was tied with two others for the longest in franchise history, but this year’s squad was unable to beat the winning streaks of the 1989-90 and 2003–04 teams, who both won the NBA title.

Detroit’s winning streak and East-leading 15-3 start have been arguably the stories of the NBA season so far, with the Pistons just two years removed from a 28-game losing streak.

Boston’s (10-8) defence was relentless on Wednesday, holding the Pistons under 40 percent shooting from the field and forcing 13 turnovers.

Brown attempted 32 shots to get 33 points, but he also contributed five assists, two blocked shots and two steals. White was 6 of 11 from 3-point range and scored 11 points in the final 4:33.

Cade Cunningham produced another gaudy stat line – finishing with 42 points, eight rebounds and five assists – but failed to tie the game in the final moments.

Up 115-112 with four seconds remaining, the Celtics intentionally fouled Cunningham near half court, but it was ruled a shooting foul, giving him a chance to tie the game with three free throw attempts. He made the first two but missed the last attempt.

Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris were the next highest scorers for the Pistons with 12 points. Duren also grabbed 16 rebounds.

League-leading Thunder stay red hot

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 40 points despite being ill and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 113-105 in an NBA Cup Game for their 10th straight victory.

Gilgeous-Alexander, who was listed as questionable on the injury report, made 12 of 19 field goals and 15 of 17 free throws.

Oklahoma City became just the fifth team in NBA history to start a season 18-1. The Thunder improved to 4-0 in West Group A and are well-positioned to reach the knockout round.

Gilgeous-Alexander has scored at least 20 points in 91 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in NBA history behind two streaks by Wilt Chamberlain. Gilgeous-Alexander can match Chamberlain’s second-place run of 92 straight on Friday against Phoenix.

Anthony Edwards had 31 points and eight rebounds and kept the Timberwolves in the game by making several difficult shots, but couldn't stop Minnesota from losing its third straight. Minnesota made just 22 of 37 free throws.

Raptors beat Pacers for 9th straight win

Brandon Ingram made a 15-foot jumper with 0.6 seconds left to give the Toronto Raptors their ninth straight victory, 97-95 over the Indiana Pacers.

Toronto wrapped up a top-two seed and homecourt in the NBA Cup quarterfinals with the victory and Milwaukee's loss to Miami on Wednesday.

Ingram had 26 points and eight rebounds to help Toronto finish the Cup group stage 4-0 and improve to 14-5 overall. Scottie Barnes had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Immanuel Quickley added 15 points.

TJ McConnell led Indiana with 16 points. The injury-ravaged Pacers have lost three straight to fall to 2-16. They are 0-3 in Cup play.
