Aryna Sabalenka has set down a marker ahead of her partnership with Novak Djokovic at the US Open mixed doubles, claiming they are "chasing the title".

The women's world number one has taken a short break following her fourth-round exit to Naomi Osaka at Wimbledon last month.

She is now returning to the court at the Canadian Open – where she will face Moyuka Uchijima in her opener – but she also has eyes on the last grand slam of the year.

The US Open's revamped mixed doubles tournament is taking place for the second year, pairing up some of the biggest names from the men’s and women’s games.

And Sabalenka is not taking the tournament, which begins on August 24, lightly as she eyes the trophy alongside Djokovic.

"I hope everyone's going to be healthy this time," Sabalenka told a press conference. "And I'm pretty excited. I think it's going to be fun.

"And playing with Novak is always fun. And mixed doubles, I played it once in my life. I mean, on the grand slams. And we are going full.

"You know, we're chasing the title. That's our goal, I believe. So, it's going to be fun and intense, I believe."

Sabalenka started the year strongly, winning the Brisbane International and the 'Sunshine Double' of Indian Wells and the Miami Open by the end of March. She also reached the Australian Open final.

However, the Miami Open final was the last time she played in a showpiece this year, having struggled to hit those heights from the Madrid Open onwards.

"Yeah, I think the rest was much needed," said Sabalenka. "I suffered during the summer swing a lot, like with my body, mentally also a little bit.

"It [a break] was much needed, and after Mykonos, I spent there, I don't know, five, six days, maybe not even that. I felt much, much better.

"I couldn't wait to get back on court and start working towards my goals for this swing. So, it was much-needed. It took me a week [to recover]."
