Unbeaten Mitchell century helps New Zealand level ODI series against India
Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 131 helped New Zealand defeat India by seven wickets in Rajkot and level the three-match ODI series at 1-1.
Mitchell got the Black Caps over the line in the 48th over after his 162-run partnership with Will Young (87) put them in a strong position to chase down a target of 285.
Shubman Gill (56) got India off to a good start after they were put in to bat, but veterans Virat Kohli (23) and Rohit Sharma (24) failed to build on their early runs.
Shreyas Iyer (eight) fell cheaply to Kristian Clarke (3-56), who troubled India’s top order, but KL Rahul’s 112 not out off 92 balls saw the hosts set a defendable total.
Harshit Rana (1-52) and Prasidh Krishna (1-49) removed openers Devon Conway (16) and Henry Nicholls (10) respectively, but neither was able to dismiss Mitchell or Young, which would come back to bite India.
Young eventually fell in the 38th over to Kuldeep Yadav (1-82), but Glenn Phillips (32 not out) helped the tourists get over the line with 15 balls to spare.

Data Debrief: Consistency key for Mitchell
Mitchell brought up his eighth century in ODI cricket, while he has scored at least 40 runs in each of his last seven matches in the format.
New Zealand snapped an eight-match losing streak to India in ODIs, but that may not come as a huge surprise to the home side considering where they were playing.
India have only won one of their five men’s ODIs at Niranjan Shah Stadium (L4); their 20% winning rate there is their worst at any venue in India where they have played more than two matches.
