India managed to build a 286-run first-innings lead on day two of the first Test against West Indies after centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja.

The hosts finished the day on 448-5, with Jadeja (104 not out) seeing out the final deliveries alongside Washington Sundar (nine not out) after a strong batting performance in Ahmedabad.

Rahul (100) started the morning session alongside captain Shubman Gill (50) and put together a 98-run partnership before the skipper was caught by Justin Greaves off the bowling of Roston Chase (2-90).

Rahul followed soon after reaching triple figures, but Jurel (125) and Jadeja looked unstoppable as their 206-run stand took the game away from the visitors.

Khary Pierre (1-91) managed to remove Jurel late on, but Jadeja brought up his century before the close of play as India could now consider declaring in the early parts of day three.

Data Debrief: Rahul finds his place as an opener

When Rahul first came into the side, he was often moved around the India batting order, but he has now cemented his spot as an opener.

Rahul now has 10 centuries at the top of the India batting lineup, with only Sunil Gavaskar (33), Virender Sehwag (22) and Murali Vijay (12) doing so more often.

It was a memorable day for Jurel, who brought up his maiden Test hundred, while it was ton number six for veteran Jadeja in the format.
