'They have hammered us' – England captain Brook searching for answers in ODI defeats
England white-ball captain Harry Brook revealed his disappointment in his side's performances in their ODI series against New Zealand, saying they have been "hammered".
New Zealand won the first of three ODIs by four wickets before following that up with a five-wicket victory on Wednesday.
New Zealand have now won their last three consecutive men's ODIs against England after winning only one of their previous seven meetings in the format (T1 L5); the last time they won more successive matches against them in the format was a five-match streak from June 2008 to February 2013.
England, meanwhile, are on a nine-match losing run in men's ODIs played on foreign soil, with seven of those nine matches seeing them fail to defend a total on the day.
Indeed, their last win on the road came against West Indies at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in November 2024.
Defeat by 5 wickets in Hamilton and @BLACKCAPS take a 2-0 lead to win the series.

Brook believes his side has more than enough quality to win matches in the format, but cannot explain the reason behind their poor batting displays.
"It's disappointing, isn't it," Brook said. "You go round every single player there and you think, 'bloody hell, there aren't many teams that they don't get into in the world'.
"It's disappointing we haven't performed as well as we could. It happens. They've played well and sometimes you've got to hold your hand up and say they've been the better team.
"It's not too dissimilar to the way we play Test cricket, really [ODI batting]. We play aggressively in Test cricket and it's not too far off.
"Obviously we haven't played much one-day cricket in the last however many years. I can't quite put my finger on why we haven't batted well enough.
"It's just one of those things. You come to play the second-best team in the world on their own patch and they've hammered us."
The final ODI will take place on November 1 as England will look to gain some winning form in their final competitive match ahead of the Ashes later in the month.
