The Ashes: England bowler Wood ruled out with knee injury
England have confirmed that Mark Wood has been ruled out for the remainder of the Ashes series due to a knee injury.
The fast bowler has suffered from injury in the past, with the issue recurring during England’s defeat in the first Test in Perth.
Wood failed to take any wickets in the opener, bowling just 11 overs across both innings, despite 19 batters falling on the first day at Perth Stadium.
The 35-year-old has taken 41 wickets against Australia in his Test career at an average of 28.56, with 17 of those scalps coming Down Under.
He released a statement on social media that read: “Gutted to be out the remainder of the Ashes.
Absolutely gutted for you, Woody.

After working so hard to get back, we're all with you
“After extensive surgery and months of work and rehab to get back into the Test arena, my knee just hasn't held up.
“None of us expected this. I came here with high expectations about making a big impact. I'm desperately disappointed that despite yet more injections and intensive medical treatment, it has become clear that the flare up in my knee is worse than feared.
“I'm really sorry that has left me unable to perform as expected but it is not for want of trying.”
England also announced that Surrey seamer Matthew Fisher will replace Wood in the squad, having already been in Australia with the Lions.
The third Test in Adelaide gets underway on December 17, with England 2-0 down in the five-match series.
No Test side has recovered from that deficit to win a series since Australia did so in 1936-37.
